If you suffer from chronic neck or back pain, you know how much it could affect your quality of life. You can no longer move as freely as you’d like and your daily activities may become limited. Manipulation of the cervical spine or neck region is a common technique utilized by the office of North Park Chiropractic Center for many of our patients complaining of neck, upper back, and shoulder/arm pain, as well as headaches. Similar to the treatment for many conditions affecting the back, chiropractic is considered as a first line of treatment for a range of cervical spine conditions.
Non-surgical spinal decompression is a treatment that uses a calibrated force on the spine to relieve pressure on the discs (gel-like cushions between the bones in the spine) and vertebrae in either the cervical or lumbar spine regions. It is used to treat a variety of common causes of back or neck pain, such as a herniated lumbar disc, bulging disc, spinal stenosis, degenerated disc, or sciatica/leg pain. Decompression helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the discs so they can heal.
You are fully clothed during spinal decompression. Treatment typically lasts 30 to 45 minutes and you may require several weeks of treatment. Before or after therapy, you may have other types of treatment such as heat or cold therapy, or ultrasound that involves the use of sound waves to generate heat and promote healing. We will customize your treatment plan based on your specific needs.
